Client Charged In Group Assault
The Facts:
Client, in Northern B.C., was charged with aggravated assault, assault with weapon, and simple assault in relation to a group attack on the complainant. He was also later charged with two breaches of his release order.
The Crown sought a jail sentence due to the injuries to the complainant and the gravity of the group attack. Jasmin Singh persuaded the Crown to accept guilty pleas only to one count of simple assault and one count of breach of release order. She argued for a conditional discharge, noting the Client’s immigration status, and the consequence of deportation for a conviction.
The Result:
The client received a Conditional Discharge such that no conviction was entered.
